Kenya Leadership Safari and Wildebeest Migration:
August 10 – 20, 2007

The Republic of Kenya, world renowned for its legendary game reserves and annual wildebeest migration, also holds an important position in East Africa. Bordered by Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Sudan, Kenya is the headquarters for many relief and humanitarian organizations that provide aid to countries in need within the region.

In addition, Kenya contains the complexities of modern and ancient, urban and rural, with cosmopolitan city centers and vast lands with nomadic tribes living according to cultural traditions thousands of years-old. HIV/ AIDS, FGM (female genital mutilation), and the right to land inheritance are just a few of the issues still prevalent in this East African nation. Lack of access to water and grazing as well as increased health care needs are forcing nomadic tribes to migrate toward urban areas, putting their culture at risk. Poaching and competition for farmland are concerns forcing locals to debate who has more worth – animals or people?

This invitation-only delegation will take you behind-the-scenes of the political, legal, educational, economic, environmental, and health issues facing Kenyans today.
